An ‘S’ shaped wave runs through the piece on all sides in three dimensional, the pendant offers a dynamic and ever-changing appearance from every angle. The graceful curves add a touch of contemporary elegance, reminiscent of the undulating waves of the ocean.

In my interpretation the Toki, originally a practical tool in Maori culture found in axes, chisels, and weaponry, embodies qualities of strength, courage, and focus. It can be a great piece for those seeking inner strength, determination, or a boost in life force.

The piece is carved from genuine Marsden pounamu, specifically from the kawakawa variety, named after the plant. The stone comes from the West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand.

The kawakawa leaf represents healing, love and deep connection to nature and to ourselves. The plant leaves chewed by caterpillars are widely used healing herbs in Maori culture. Each Kawakawa design has different hole pattern in a random balance, so each piece is one of a kind.

The outer piece is a dark-green/almost black bowenite; the middle one is a green marsden, and the inner disk is yellowish flower jade. All of them come from the West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand. The concave form is thicker at outside edge and thinner in the centre. The pendant has adjustable, braided, black cord.

In my interpretation, the three circles of life represent the beginning and the end, the joining of cultures, the bonding of friendship/partnership for life. The three pieces can symbolise trinity, together they create harmony. It can also represent unity in our genealogy (whakapapa) – most of us come from different backgrounds, nevertheless, we are all equal.

The stone comes from the West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand. The contemporary concave form gives more translucency for the piece - some photos were taken with backlight.

Do you have a tough exterior and a soft inside? The sea urchin will teach this balance of rough and tender. The kina's spiky exterior can symbolize protection and resilience, reminding us of the strength found in facing life's challenges. It can connect us to nature, giving the feeling of endurance. Its five-petal pattern can represent harmony.

In my interpretation, the urchin is also a symbol of fertility. It embodies virgin beauty, associated with flowers—the organs of the land. Sea Urchins are the organs of the sea. They are often associated with the ocean, symbolizing sustenance and the abundance of life it provides.
